With "Into the Hill Then" (2011), Wouter van de Koot produced a very graphic work, based on his previous watercolour and ink works, that looks almost like a print image. However, the painterly element of the work appears as the viewer comes closely to the painting to discover tiny details executed in very thin layers of paint and with a high level of concentration and sensitivity. None of the lines, which at first sight were thought to be graphic, are straight. This places the viewer to face "miniature expressionism", creating thereby a tension between both.
